Less than one month before the start of the Tour de France, Thibaut Pinot had decided to test himself on the Critérium du Dauphiné, particularly high leveled this year with the presence of Froome, Contardor Door Bardet, Kreuziger Martin, Aru.
After a tough day on the 1st time trial and on the 5th stage, the FDJ rider knew it was over for his chances in the overall standings, but he also knows that there are two beautiful mountain stages still to win.
Pinot took the escape group on the queen stage on Saturday with, amongst others, his teammate Jérémy Roy. In the final ascension to Méribel, the two best French climbers of the peloton are still at the front, keeping enough time ahead of the yellow’s jersey group: Thibaut Pinot (FDJ) and Romain Bardet (AG2R). After a final attack from Bardet 3kms from the finish line, the 2 frenchies finally ended the stage with a sprint. Pinot gave his utmost to impose himself and collect a prestigious victory in Méribel!
During the final stage, he was again outpaced by the leaders and had to settle for the 16th place at the final overall classification.
Three weeks before the Tour de France, Pinot proved he was able to win in the hardest stages, and knows that he has a little time to refine his condition and get in top shape.
